The Space Between
Lichen seem to be very flat creatures. A closer inspection reveals layers and close branching forms that touch each other. But there is a space, an echo, an evolutionary blue print of what was that i wanted to capture. A little esoteric, yes, but the exploration became a welcomed, pandemic, visual challenge! Later as the paintings needed some kind of tension in the relationship between the images in the foreground and background, ancient sponge shapes became the arcitecture of the images to which the branching whisps of lichen attached and unattached themselves. The timeless form of branching is an epic journey….under water and on land it is an almost perfect survival technique.
